Back in the old Corps the first flying machine I ever flew in was a big CH-53 at seventeen I and my similarly seventeen buddy Lewis took our first ride above the ground. We were going through ITR in the BST phase and flying out to the ranges that shot at the Browns Island target area. Our weapon was the 106 mm RR that alone was exciting BUT the look on that West Va. boys face was mirrored on mine, big eyes, even bigger grin. LAWDS what a noise and the cherry juice dripping from the ceiling panels the hot exhaust and the constant shudder and shake of a huge rotor attempting to tear it self apart. I rode in many other Choppers after that but I'll remember that ride till my dying day. What a machine, what a ride!
The Army may get a piece of F-35 for vertical lift
news report Lockheed Martin showcased an F-35 flight simulator at the Army Aviation Association of America’s Mission Solutions Summit this week, in an effort to promote technology that could be integrated into future army aircraft.
Ed Whalen, Lockheed’s rotary wing capture lead, says more than 100 army personnel had flown the simulator since the start of the Summit. The event was held in Nashville, Tennessee from 4-6 May.
“We want to take the most advanced weapons platform in the world and expose army aviators to that system,” Whalen told reporters on 6 May.
